What is a Revision? When you make a change to something, you are revising it and the changes you make are the revisions. Therefore, a revision for CAD data is a changed version of a product. This can be further broken down into major and minor revisions.
When a revision involves two or more individual changes on a drawing, each change may be identified by a sequence number enclosed in parentheses preceding the description of the change.
Revisions mean you can easily and efficiently keep track of whats changing and why. Without a solid revision system, changes may be lost and items could be manufactured to old drawings.
The drawing revision and drawing number make up a unique reference to a drawing, when making a change you need to know the drawing number that youre modifying, and which revision you are making the edits to (generally the most recent revision).
The revision of drawings is about keeping drawing records up to date to accurately show the details of a plants existing construction or to define the scope of what is to be installed or modified for a project.
The term Drawing Revision refers to modifications that are made to a drawing after it has been signed and issued. The first revision to a drawing takes place after the initial issue of the drawing is signed and released for bid or construction.
When an asset is changed in the plant or out in the field, its best practice to modify the existing engineering drawing to incorporate the changes. Once the edits have been made the existing drawing is superseded, replaced by the new version.
As each revision is made to the drawing, an entry is placed in the revision block. This entry will provide the revision number, a title or summary of the revision, and the date of the revision.
