Hi, this is Gary with MacMost.com. On todays episode lets look at a new feature in Pages that allows you to rearrange things in your document using Sections. So Apple recently released new versions of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. There are a lot of small new features in these. Im going to look at one today. Im using Pages version 5.6 and Im just going to create a new blank document. In the past I could certainly look at the page thumbnails here on the left and see what pages Ive done but I couldnt really rearrange them. They are basically a way for me to jump from page to page. Now, with Pages 5.6, I can actually rearrange them in a way that you might do say if you were writing a story and you want to have sections that you rearrange or perhaps a script or perhaps notes for class. Things like that and you kind of want to rearrange sheets of paper. You can do that using Sections. So lets start off by just creating a bunch of pages that may have some notes on them. If you create a document that you want to use again as a model for other documents, you can save it as a template. Creating your own template can be as simple as adding your company logo to an existing template, or you can design a completely new template.
Page templates are copies of pages stored in a draft state in the Templates folder in the Pages library. Template pages are not published; only the pages created from the templates can be published. You can get to the Templates folder in the pages library by doing this: Click New at the top of an existing site or page.
Edit a page template If the page template is used in the document: Tap a page thumbnail that uses the page template you want to edit, tap it again, then tap Edit Page Template. If the page template isn't used in the document yet: Tap. at the bottom of the screen, then tap the page template you want to edit.
Choose Edit > Track Changes (from the Edit menu at the top of your computer screen). A review toolbar appears at the top of the page.
Create a custom template in Pages on Mac Select File > Save as Template (from the File menu at the top of your screen). Click an option: Add to Template Chooser: Type a name for the template, then press Return. Your template appears in the My Templates category in the template chooser.
