i will be explaining how to use a stimulant so a stimulant is for cleaning proximal tooth surfaces where the interdental gingiva is missing and the space must be adequate otherwise you can cause trauma to the papilla so you wouldnt want to use a stimulant with a type 1 embrasure space you want to use it with more of a type 2 embrasure space and the stimulant has not been shown to reduce more plaque with brushing but it has been shown to improve interdental inflammation better than brushing alone so a stimulant is made of soft wood and it is a triangular shape you can see that and the way you use it is you find the tip theres one end thats a little more pointy than the other and you want to moisten it in the mouth to soften the wood and then you want to place the tip from the facial and put the flat edge against the gingiva so theres a flat edge on it and its at the top so find your pointy end and the flat edge and you place that from the facial and then you just gently move it bac

Frequency of Application for Best Results: Silver diamine fluoride, when applied correctly, should be effective after a single application. However, multiple applications are likely to be more effective. For maximum caries-arresting benefit, SDF should be reapplied at six-month intervals for two years.
How often does SDF need to be put on tooth decay? Putting SDF on childrens teeth with decay every six to 12 months is recommended to slow down or stop decay. This is especially important for children who have decay in their back teeth.
Some teeth treated with SDF may need a filling or a crown as a permanent solution. SDF may also need to be reapplied at future dental visits. SDF treatment will not prevent new cavities from forming. Cavities will continue to develop if a patient does not change their habits.
Application Schedule Therefore, at a minimum, the biannual application of SDF is recommended to maintain arrest of unrestored carious lesion.
Saturate the lesion or high-risk surface with SDF using a microbrush and allow absorption of SDF by capillary action for at least 1 minute.
Typically, the SDF treatment be effective for 3-12 months at least, after which time it will be re-applied to ensure the cavity does not get bigger.
The disadvantages of SDF include potential pulpal and oral soft tissue irritation and dental staining. Attention is needed during the application to avoid contact of the solution with the gingiva, since it may cause irritation.
This study compared 4 different interventions: (1) full dental treatment (ART and extractions), (2) only extractions, (3) only restorations using ART, and (4) no treatment.
