What are RFIs? Requests for Information, most commonly referred to as RFIs, are formal documents used during construction projects to ask upstream questions for clarity on design, specifications, approvals, and more.
1. Pre-Construction Phase. The pre-construction phase includes creating a strategic plan for the project, creating a design, securing permits or entitlements, and gathering the labor and resources required for construction.
Changes that are made to the Construction Plans after the contract has been bid that require. formal documentation be made by the Engineer of Record are termed a construction revision. Not all. changes made during a projects construction activities require a formal revision.
In construction, a request for information (RFI) seeks the clarification of plans, drawings, specifications, and agreements. The construction RFI is a formal written process in which parties, such as the contractor and designer, clarify information gaps in construction documents.
What is Request for Information (RFI) in construction? For most construction projects, the agreement, drawings, and specifications may not address every small aspect of the work. Therefore, when clarification is required, an RFI document is issued which details the additional information required.
Heres the process: Step 1: Design. During this phase, the client places a project for bidding. Step 2: Pre-Construction. Step 3: Procurement. Step 4: Construction. Step 5: Commissioning. Step 6: Owner Occupancy. Step 7: Project Closeout.
A general contractor or subcontractor usually submits an RFI in written form to retrieve information from a design, engineering, or construction professional. The information in an RFI is information that wasnt included in the scope of the construction contract.
