So, when you renew your certificate, DigiCert must issue a new one to replace the expiring one, and you must the new certificate on your server.
Google Chrome for Windows / Internet Explorer / Microsoft Edge Open the Start menu. Search for and open Internet Options. In the dialogue box that appears, select the Content tab. Click Clear SSL State.
When your current certificate is about to expire, a Renewal is required. A Revoke Replace (Reissue) is when you cancel a current, valid certificate and request a new one.
Navigate to Templates Security SSL/TLS Certificates, click Create and select Controller Certificate. Once the certificate is successfully imported or created, navigate to Administration Settings Access Settings, and click the pencil icon at top right to edit the System Access Settings.
So no, renewing a cert doesnt revoke the old one, and you shouldnt revoke the old one--just let it expire. Only revoke a cert if you suspect its private key has been compromised.
Revoking your SSL certificate cancels it and immediately removes HTTPS from the website. Depending on your Web host, your website might display errors or become temporarily inaccessible. The process cannot be reversed.
A new cert is issued, but it doesnt overwrite the old one. And if the old one were overwritten, what then? It cant be used again, so (once again) theres no reason to revoke it. Again, the only reason to revoke a cert is if you suspect the private key has been compromised.
How to Renew an SSL Certificate Set reminders for SSL expiration. Generate a Certificate Signing Request. Purchase and activate your new SSL certificate. Complete domain control validation. your new SSL certificate.
