What is XHTML? XHTML stands for Extensible Hypertext Markup Language.
Right-click the file and select Rename. Delete the x from . xhtml to give *. html (where * is the name of your file).
Save a document in HTML format Choose File Save As and choose HTML from the drop-down list. Give the filename an extension of . html, specify the file location, and click Save. Open the HTML file in a Web browser to examine the converted file. If it meets with your approval, you are done.
XHTML was developed to make HTML more extensible and flexible to work with other data formats (such as XML). In addition, browsers ignore errors in HTML pages, and try to display the website even if it has some errors in the markup. So XHTML comes with a much stricter error handling.
XHTML Editor Select Source Code from the Tools drop-down menu. The Source Code dialog displays in which the HTML markup for the formatted text is rendered. Enter and edit marked-up text. Click Submit to save.
To Convert a Site from HTML to XHTML: You must add a DOCTYPE definition to the top of every page of code. All tags and attributes must be lowercase. All attribute values must have quotation marks around them. You must close empty tags from the HTML. Have the web site validated.
The XML to HTML conversion process involves the following steps: Parsing: The XML file is parsed to extract the data elements. Transformation: The extracted data is transformed into HTML code using XSL templates. Output: The transformed HTML code is saved as an HTML file.
As long as support is not widespread, most web developers avoid using XHTML that is not HTML-compatible, so advantages of XML such as namespaces, faster parsing, and smaller-footprint browsers do not benefit the user.
