You can open and save files in the OpenDocument Text (. odt) file format used by some word processing applications.
The meaning of . ODT abbreviation is Open Document Text . ODT is part of the Open Document Format (ODF), which was created to store data for OpenOffice systems.
Its purpose is the same as DOC, but in essence it is a completely different format that uses ODT principles. At the same time, Microsoft has removed the veil of mystery from its aging DOC format. Moreover, in subsequent versions, MS Word already supported ODT.
OpenDocument (. odt) files are compatible with Word and open source applications like OpenOffice and LibreOffice, but you might see formatting differences and some Word features arent available in . odt files. Word documents (. docx) are compatible with most applications.
The . odt file extension is associated with an OpenDocument text document, created by LibreOffice Writer, OpenOffice Writer, or another word processor.
ODT files are used by word processors to store formatted text. Designed as a storage option for word-processing programmes, theyre hugely popular with free and open-sourced software. However, their compatibility means you can access and edit . ODT files with a wide range of word processors.
How do you convert an . odt document to a . docx document? Open the . odt document with your word processor (for instance Open Office software like LibreOffice, or simply with Microsoft Word). Save your document with the Save As option and save the text as a . docx document.
How to convert your ODT files to PDF In Acrobat, navigate to the Create PDF option from the Tools menu. Click on Select A File and navigate to the location of your ODT file. Click on the ODT file you want to convert. Choose Create. Click the save icon to save your new PDF to the desired location.
