After confirming that an unresponsive casualty is breathing normally, place them in the recovery position to maintain airway patency. Begin by kneeling beside the casualty, removing glasses and bulky pocket items but not small ones. Ensure their legs are straight. Extend their nearest arm at a right angle with the palm facing up. Bring the other arm across the chest, placing the back of the hand against your nearest cheek while holding it there. Lift the far knee until the foot is flat on the floor. While keeping the hand pressed against the cheek, pull the far leg and roll the casualty onto their side. Adjust the top leg to a right angle and tilt their head back to secure the airway.
