hey everybody this is gulag uh in this video im going to talk about on how you could do the backup for your ec2 instance and restore in this video im going to explore two methods the first one is using ami and then the second one is using aws backup to backup your ec2 instance lets begin all right so make sure you log into your aws console and go to go to ec2 services and go to the instances and select the instance that you need to backup its always good idea to do a stop on the instance that youre going to backup so im going to quickly do that refresh here it is stopping itll take another 20 seconds before i change the state from stopping to stopped one more refresh im gonna pause the video uh and come back all right its been almost a minute im going to refresh that my instance has been fully stopped so lets create an ami image of this instance so select the instance go to action select image and template and from there create image you could name the image that you like i

It isnt possible to restore or recover a deleted or deregistered AMI. However, you can create a new, identical AMI using one of the following: Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) snapshots that were created as backups. Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances that were launched from the deleted AMI.
The default user names are: For Amazon Linux 2022, Amazon Linux 2, or the Amazon Linux AMI, the user name is ec2-user . For a CentOS AMI, the user name is centos or ec2-user . For a Debian AMI, the user name is admin . For a Fedora AMI, the user name is fedora or ec2-user .

By storing and restoring an AMI using S3 buckets, you can copy AMIs from one AWS partition to another, for example, from the main commercial partition to the AWS GovCloud (US) partition. You can also make archival copies of AMIs by storing them in an S3 bucket.
In the navigation pane, choose Protected resources and the Amazon EC2 resource ID that you want to restore. On the Resource details page, a list of recovery points for the selected resource ID is shown. To restore a resource, in the Backups pane, choose the radio button next to the recovery point ID of the resource.
On the Amazon EC2 console, on the Elastic Block Store menu, choose Snapshots. Search for the snapshot that you want to restore, and select it. Choose Actions, and then choose Create Volume. Create the new volume in the same Availability Zone as your EC2 instance.
