Is it OK to use old postage stamps?

Regular stamps without a barcode* will no longer be valid after 31 July 2023. This follows the introduction of a 6 month grace period from the initial 31 January deadline. You can either use up your non-barcoded stamps before this new deadline or swap them for the new barcoded ones.

Are you supposed to clean stamps?

Cleaning your rubber stamps regularly is essential if you want your images to look as detailed as possible each time you use them. If you neglect to clean the stamps after each use, you may find that unwanted ink transfers to your next project, which will cause the colors to look muddy and the detail to disappear.

How do you flatten curled stamps?

Vigorously rub the stamp over the edge of a table, desk or other object that has an edge, applying pressure as you rub. After 10-20 seconds of rubbing, the stamp should be restored to flat condition, but if it is regummed, it will continue to curl. This process will straighten both used and OG stamps.

How do you tell if a stamp is reused?

First of all a used stamp has actually been used for postage. It has a cancellation on it, and usually the gum is missing. An unused stamp has never been used postally, but may have small imperfections such as a thin or a small tear. A mint stamp is fault-free.

How do you preserve old stamps?

Keep your stamps in appropriate albums, in darkness away from direct light, inside a wine cooler, with temperatures at 12 and relative humidity between 50-55%. If the ideal is not possible in your home, keep the collection in darkness and take steps to get the accurate temperature and humidity correct.

How do you remove oxidation from stamps?

Simply place your affected stamp in a glass tray or dish then cover it with peroxide. Allow the stamp to soak in the peroxide for approximately 60 seconds, but while it is immersed in the peroxide, swish the stamp around gently to aid exposing all of it to the fluid.

How do you restore old stamps?

The easiest way to restore the stamp is to add a light chlorine solution, this will bleach out the stain or toning are restore the stamp to its original fresh color. To prevent damage to the stamp the chlorine should be very lightly diluted and the stamp must be rinsed after treatment.

Can you clean old stamps?

Fill a plastic container with clean, lukewarm water and perhaps add a little bit of salt that will help the glue dissolve. Only wash a few stamps at a time. Put the stamps into the water so they are covered with water. After approximately 5-10 minutes the paper will begin to detach from the stamps.
