You cant directly delete a version of a secret. Instead, you remove all staging labels from the version using the AWS CLI or AWS SDK. This marks the version as deprecated, and then Secrets Manager can automatically delete the version in the background.
To view deleted secrets Open the Secrets Manager console at . On the Secrets page, choose Preferences ( ). In the Preferences dialog box, select Show secrets scheduled for deletion, and then choose Save.
Sign in to the AWS Management Console and open the AWS CloudFormation console at . If this is a new CloudFormation account, choose Create New Stack. In the Specify Details section, enter a stack name in the Name field.
To restore a secret (console) Open the Secrets Manager console at . In the list of secrets, choose the secret you want to restore. On the Secret details page, choose Cancel deletion. In the Cancel secret deletion dialog box, choose Cancel deletion.
Go to the Secret Manager page in the Google Cloud console. On the Secret Manager page, click on the Name of a secret. On the Secret details page, in the Versions table, locate a secret version to get. Find the ID of the version in the table and read its metadata.
To access a secret in your AWS account, you can use the secret name. To access a secret in a different AWS account, use the ARN of the secret. The key name of the key-value pair whose value you want to retrieve. If you dont specify a json-key , AWS CloudFormation retrieves the entire secret text.
To retrieve the previous version of a secret, use VersionStage and specify AWSPREVIOUS. To revert to the previous version of a secret, call UpdateSecretVersionStage . Secrets Manager generates a CloudTrail log entry when you call this action.
During rotation, Secrets Manager creates an AWSPENDING version ID before creating the new secret version. To check if a secret version exists, call GetSecretValue . AWSPREVIOUS , which indicates the previous current version of the secret. You can use this as the last known good version.
Two versions of a secret cant have the same staging label. If a version doesnt have a label, Secrets Manager considers it deprecated. Secrets Manager removes deprecated secret versions when there are more than 100.
AWS CloudFormation stores the template you use to create your stack as part of the stack. To retrieve the template from CloudFormation use the aws cloudformation get-template command. The aws cloudformation get-template command returns the deleted stacks templates for up to 90 days after the stack has been deleted.
