Several reasons for your Word file to disappear even after saving all your work. The most common ones include a forceful quit for the MS Word program or a power interruption with your computer that caused it to shut down accidentally. Another cause is quitting the Word file without saving the most recent changes.
Within Microsoft Word, go to File / Manage Document and click on the File tab. Now select Document Management, then Recover Unsaved Documents. In the new window, you will see a list of all unsaved Word documents. Select the documents you are interested in and click Open.
Use the Undo feature The best and simplest thing to do is to undo the process if you mistakenly saved over a Word document. You can restore the Word document to an earlier version by pressing Ctrl + Z. There is also an Undo button on the top-left corner of the Word window, which you can use to revert unwanted changes.
In MS Word, click the File Tab in the upper left. Click Manage Document and select Recover Unsaved Documents from the drop-down list. Check for your missing file in the dialog box. Open the recovered Word document and click the Save As button in the top banner.
Open the file you want to view. Click File Info Version history. Select a version to open it in a separate window. If you want to restore a previous version youve opened, select Restore.
Checking the Recycle Bin Double-click the Recycle Bin on the Desktop. Search through the list of documents to see whether the deleted Word document is still there. If you find the desired Word file, right-click the file name, and then select Restore to recover the file.
If youve saved the file Click File Info. Under Manage Documents, select the file labeled (when I closed without saving). In the bar at the top of the file, select Restore to overwrite any previously saved versions.
Follow these steps to recover an a deleted Word document that you didnt save: Open Word and click the File Tab in the upper left. Click Manage Document and select Recover Unsaved Documents. In the dialogue box, look for your missing file. Open the recovered Word document and click the Save As button.
