If you cant find a file on your computer or you accidently modified or deleted a file, you can restore it from a backup (if youre using Windows backup) or you can try to restore it from a previous version. Previous versions are copies of files and folders that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point.
System restore really wont help you at all for a virus. It can help with other types of malware though. Malware other than viruses, like spyware or adware, can sometimes be -not removed- by system restore, but stopped from working via a system restore.
Deleting system restore points is safe, but you need to be mindful about which restore points you should delete. The Command Prompt can help you pick and delete specific restore points. Heres how you can use this tool: Press Windows Key + R to open the Run command dialog box.
If the System Restore points are missing, it can be because the System Restore utility has been turned off manually. Whenever your turn off System Restore, all previous points created are deleted. By default, its turned on.
Restoring wont affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.
When an failure or data corruption occurs, System Restore can return a system to working condition without you having to reinstall the operating system. It repairs the Windows environment by reverting back to the files and settings that were saved in the restore point.
In the Control Panel search box, type recovery. Select Recovery Open System Restore. In the Restore system files and setting box, select Next. Select the restore point that you want to use in the list of results, and then select Scan for affected programs.
Its a good idea to create a restore point when your computer is in a stable, functional state. Create one before making docHub system changes or installing new or unknown software; if anything goes wrong, you can revert the operating system to the restore point.
