How Much Can a Landlord Raise Rent By in Oregon? In Oregon, landlords cannot raise the rent above 7% plus the consumer price index (CPI) per year. Currently, the maximum rent increase for 2023 is 14.6%.
The current allowable increase for leases expiring between January 1, 2023 through June 30, 2023 is seven point nine percent (7.9%).
Changes to your Rent 2023/24 We normally set rents in line with the Government Rent Standard which allows rent increases of Consumer Price Index (CPI) +1%. CPI is a common measure of inflation. In September 2022 CPI was 10.1%, which would normally mean that your rent could be increased by a maximum of 11.1%.
Under AB 1482, landlords are limited to increasing rent by no more than 5% plus the local inflation rate. The local inflation rate is determined by the California Consumer Price Index (CCPI), which is released annually by the California Department of Finance.
Please note there are no changes to your rent at this stage. Any increases do not apply until April 2023 for the 2023/24 financial year. On September 13, the State of Oregons Office of Economic Analysis announced the maximum rent increase rate for 2023 to be 14.6%. Passed in February of 2019, SB 608 set the maximum rent increase formula to be 7% plus the West Coast Consumer Price Index, which changes every year.
The government has confirmed that there will be a cap on rent increases for social housing tenants across the country. This means that rents will increase by up to 7% from 1 April 2023.
