A system restore point is primarily used for OS files and settings. It saves Windows system files and drivers. This will help in the event of a bad Windows update or system corruption. It also saves executable application data.
Creating a Restore Point System Restore saves between one and three weeks' worth of past restore points. The number of saved restore points depends on how you use your computer and how much hard-drive space is available for storing restore-point information.
Click on System Restore. Windows will automatically select the recommended restore point. If you want to use some other point, select Choose a different restore point. Click on Next....To do it: In the search bar, type System restore point. ... Then click on Configure. Click on Turn on system protection.
Old restore points no longer appear, but windows doesn't get back the space that should be gained by deleting old restore points. Therefore the space available for new restore points becomes less and less even though old restore points are being deleted.
A restore point creates a copy of the system files on the computer at the moment it's created. This means you can return the computer to its original state should any errors occur when, for instance, you run system utilities or installing drivers.
