Creating a restore point provides you with the exact state of the operating system as well as your data prior to any changes. Microsoft explains, “System Restore uses restore points to return your system files and settings to an earlier point in time without affecting personal files.
Approximately 1GB of disc space is needed for each restore point. The range for recommended storage allocation was 2–10% of the total storage space. Something like 2% should be OK, around 20GB.
How to access System Restore from the Advanced Boot Menu Under 'Advanced startup', click the 'Restart now' button. Click Troubleshoot -> Advanced options -> System Restore. This will reboot and bring you to the System Restore menu.
If the System Restore points are missing, it can be because the System Restore utility has been turned off manually. Whenever your turn off System Restore, all previous points created are deleted. By default, it's turned on.
It's a good idea to create a restore point when your computer is in a stable, functional state. Create one before making significant system changes or installing new or unknown software; if anything goes wrong, you can revert the operating system to the restore point.
What is restore point? A system restore point is a backup copy of important Windows operating system (OS) files and settings that can be used to recover the system to an earlier point of time in the event of system failure or instability. It is a part of Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, 11 and Windows Server.
If you want, you can select the maximum disk space that will be used for your restore points; after that, older ones will be deleted to make space. Usually, 1GB to 5GB is sufficient, depending on the size of your hard drive.
By default, System Restore automatically creates a restore point once per week and also before major events like an app or driver installation. If you want even more protection, you can force Windows to create a restore point automatically every time you start your PC.
The restore points' storage time frame has been exceeded Windows 10 stores restore points for a maximum of 90 days. Once 90 days are over, your computer deletes the older files to make space for new ones. So, if your older files have disappeared, don't worry.
In the search box on the taskbar, type Create a restore point, and select it from the list of results. On the System Protection tab in System Properties, select Create. Type a description for the restore point, and then select Create > OK.
