It's a good idea to create a restore point when your computer is in a stable, functional state. Create one before making significant system changes or installing new or unknown software; if anything goes wrong, you can revert the operating system to the restore point.
What is restore point? A system restore point is a backup copy of important Windows operating system (OS) files and settings that can be used to recover the system to an earlier point of time in the event of system failure or instability. It is a part of Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, 11 and Windows Server.
If you want, you can select the maximum disk space that will be used for your restore points; after that, older ones will be deleted to make space. Usually, 1GB to 5GB is sufficient, depending on the size of your hard drive.
Approximately 1GB of disc space is needed for each restore point. The range for recommended storage allocation was 2–10% of the total storage space. Something like 2% should be OK, around 20GB.
In the Control Panel search box, type recovery. Select Recovery > Open System Restore. In the Restore system files and settings box, select Next. Select the restore point that you want to use in the list of results, and then select Scan for affected programs.
The restore points' storage time frame has been exceeded Windows 10 stores restore points for a maximum of 90 days. Once 90 days are over, your computer deletes the older files to make space for new ones. So, if your older files have disappeared, don't worry.
The system restore point is created on the same disk where the operating system is installed. It uses a maximum of 15 percent of the disk space; older files are automatically deleted in order to make space for new files.
Windows 10 restore points may disappear because their maximum available storage space has been reached, the System Restore files are corrupted, their storage time has been exceeded, you have upgraded your operating system, there are USB turbo boosters present, or system restore is disabled.
Types of restore points are as follows: System checkpoints: Scheduled by the OS. Manual restore points: Created by the user. Installation restore points: Created upon installation of certain programs.
