Hello! So on this channel I restore a lot of old black-and-white photographs. Today Im gonna be walking you through my methods of how I do so. So a picture like this can become a picture like this, lets get to it. So by default Photoshop tends to work in a very destructive way. I like to work non destructively, so the first thing I do is take my image layer and convert it to a smart object. In essence whats happened is that my original image layer has been placed inside say a clear plastic wallet. So you could write on the wallet you can you know stretch the wallet. You can do all manner of things to the wallet but the image inside is safe. The next stage for me is to crop out any edges of the photograph which I dont wish to restore. Which I do using the crop tool. Now within the crop tool as a quick thing to mention there is the straighten tool. Now in the case of this image I dont need to use it but if you were using say an image that youd scanned in that had gone slightly skew

Launch Photoshop and choose Window Actions. Choose Load Actions from the Actions panel flyout menu.
You can also search for the AutoRecover folder using the search box in the File Explorer window. Step 02: In the AutoRecover folder, you can see a PSB file which is the auto-saved copy of the Photoshop file.
Actions do disappear if you dont save them out. They are stored with the rest of your preferences in your user account.
When things go wrong, sometimes the best option is to simply revert the file by selecting Revert from the File menu, or by pressing f12. This will undo any changes that youve made, and bring back your file to the way it was when you first opened it (or the last time it was saved).
Actions are saved by default in the Photoshop Presets Actions folder.
