While editing Google Docs Document Outline, you can disable or remove specific headings from the index. Step 1 Scroll your mouse to the Outline and hover over the particular heading you want to remove. Step 2 Click the cross (x) sign at the side of the heading.
If you click on the View button you should see the Show document outline feature ticked. That said, the outline may not show until you click on the Outline button in the upper left corner of the screen. If for some reason the outline feature isnt enabled, simply activate it from the View menu.
Head to Google Docs, sign in to your account, and open your document. You can display the Document Outline in just two clicks. Click View Show Document Outline from the menu to put a checkmark next to it. Youll then see the Outline display on the left side of your document.

To properly re-add the heading to the outline, select it, right-click it, and select Add to document outline in the bottom of the drop-down menu.
