And its really about this topic, how to come up with a motif. Well, first of all, what do we mean by a motif? Well, a motif is a short musical idea. And the idea of a motif is, once youve come up with one, its one that you might using during the course of a piece. So, for example, if you have a motif that goes like this, then you might be able to reuse it. So you could repeat it, you could transpose it. You could do it upside down. Lots of things you could do with it, and it could be the basis for some counterpoint, in other words, a little bit of interplay between the parts. So you could have one part going. And then, it goes on to do something else while another part copies it. And on we go. So you see, you can build up a texture in two or more parts using a motif.
