Why it matters. There are many reasons to make a living will: to give guidance to your doctors and health care surrogates, provide clarity and closure to your loved ones, prevent conflict or disagreements among family members, and limit the emotional burden on your closest people at the time of your death.
The document must be dated and signed by two witnesses in order for it to be considered legal under California law. A Living Will form may include: specification for end-of-life decisions; do not resuscitate (DNR) orders; and designation of a health care surrogate.
4 Pros and Cons of a Living Will Pro: Ensures You Get What You Need and Want. The biggest advantage of a living will is that it lists out all the care you want and need in your later years. Pro: Takes the Pressure off Family. Con: You Need to Understand It. Con: People Can Still Argue the Meaning.
Under Florida law, a Living Will must be signed by its maker in the presence of two witnesses, at least one of whom is neither the spouse nor a blood relative of the maker. If the maker is physically unable to sign the Living Will, one of the witnesses can sign in the presence and at the direction of the maker.
These include: Living Will. A living will is a written document that specifies what medical treatment you would or would not want in the event you are in a terminal condition or a persistent vegetative state. Power of Attorney. Health Care Instructions.
End-of-life documents, or advance directives, help ensure your healthcare wishes are carried out as you near death and after you die. Theyre also used if youre incapacitated, meaning you are unable to tend to matters regarding your own well-being (e.g., in a coma).
