Reading Faded Handwriting in Original Documents To increase the contrast on a faint or faded document, place it inside a yellow-tinted sheet protector and photocopy. The sheet protector you use does not have to be fancy or expensive. Please note: The sheet protector you buy may only be open on the two short ends.
I mentioned before that you could take a photo of your receipt on your mobile phone. It wont surprise you to learn that you can also edit the image on your phone. You can use a photo editing app such as PicsArt or LightX to edit the image. Simply alter the image settings to make the faded text visible.
Unfortunately, there is no way to restore faded ink to its original state. Some chemicals are advertised to darken original inks, but they are often damaging to paper and conservators do not recommend them.
The best barriers that can be used to prevent fading inkjet prints are known as fixative sprays. Fixative sprays contain chemicals that are designed to counter ultraviolet rays which leach away the vibrancy and colour of the inks on the paper.
Place a non-fluffy, thin towel on top of the receipt and place a heated iron on top. The heat from the iron will help the ink show up better and become legible again. This tactic is good for receipt paper that has faded ink but is otherwise in good condition.
Just add water to the jar and the ink will become liquid again. If you are in a hurry, crush the ink into small pieces, add water and stir. Voila you have ink. If you have a few hours, add water and stir occasionally.
Place the cartridge on a clean surface and apply a few drops of alcohol-based hand sanitizer to the ink nozzle. Its best to use an unscented hand sanitizer, as some scents or colors in the hand sanitizer may affect your ink cartridges performance. Gently rub your finger on the ink nozzle once or twice.
