Your boss can keep the mail if they choose to, although an employer may choose to deactivate the account. Typically, a forwarding system will be activated so that future emails sent to your old corporate account will be forwarded to the manager instead. There is nothing to be concerned about with this process.
Employers cannot legally access an employees private email account without permission, but its possible that personal email could become accessible to employers if information is stored on a device owned by the employer.
Initially, changing the password and revoking access to the work email after termination are critical steps to prevent unauthorized access. This ensures that the former employee cannot access their email to retrieve or manipulate sensitive information, use it to disseminate malicious content, or steal customers.
Your access to company email after termination depends on company policies, legal considerations, the circumstances of the termination, the local laws, and the industry. In most cases, your email access will be revoked immediately, and you will not be able to access it without explicit authorization.
Even if you deleted the emails, your organization most likely will have a comprehensive backup strategy in place to recover anything deleted, even from several weeks back. There are multiple ways that email can be retained separate from a backup.
If your organization uses Google Vault, you might be able to retrieve data older than 25 days. If the data was subject to retention rules or holds, you can search for and export the retained data. You cant directly restore the data to the users Gmail account.
Recover messages from your trash On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app . At the top left, tap Menu. Trash. On the left of each message you want to recover, tap the senders profile image. At the top right, tap More. Move to. In the Move to menu, choose where you want to move the messages.
More often, the account will be forwarded or redirected to a colleague or supervisor. The emails could be archived for legal and compliance purposes. If the company has a data retention policy, your email account and its contents will be retained for some time before they get permanently deleted.
