Hey there! No need to stress over this part of the application process. The Common App makes it quite simple. Once your teachers upload their letters of recommendation, these letters can be used for all the colleges you apply to through the Common App.
How to write a follow up to a letter of recommendation request Address the recipient. Start your follow-up message by using a professional greeting to address the recipient. Explain why youre following up. Provide important information. Share your gratitude. Include a professional closing.
What to include in a recommendation letter The employees name. Your relationship to the employee. An overview of the company and position. Your title and contact details. The length of time you have known the employee. An explanation of why youre recommending the employee. The specifics about the employee and their work.
Follow up at least one week before the letter is due in person or via email to check in and see if your recommender needs any additional information from you. Ask to be notified by email once the recommendation has been sent, if possible/applicable.
You may be able to reuse letters of recommendation. However, many grad schools ask the letter-writer to submit the letter directly, so you will have to ask your writers to re-submit their letters each time you apply to a new program.
If youre applying to multiple opportunities, its totally okay to ask the same person for multiple letters because they can reuse their writing and submit it to any position you apply to.
Letters of recommendation do not automatically attach to multiple applications. If you wish to use the same recommendation for both requests, you can submit the same recommendation again, or you can contact the school directly and ask if they will make a copy for you.
Most schools provide a letter storage service via their career center or similar resources. There are also online letter-holding services like Interfolios Dossier that you may use to store letters for multiple application systems.
