The system restore feature in Windows has been around forever, and its saved me plenty of times, although its not always 100% reliable. And it got me thinking, what exactly does the system restore feature restore and back up? I mean I know that it obviously does system files, but does it do the entire Windows directory, what does it do outside of the Windows directory? Because I know that it also claims to not restore or delete any personal documents and stuff like that, so I kind of looked into it. Now, the first resource that I came across of course, was the official Microsoft documentation. And the summary they say is: System restore monitors system changes and saves the system state as a restore point. If a system problem develops as a result of a system change, the user can return the system to a previous state using the data from a restore point. Restoring a file to an earlier time Navigate to the saved file in File Explorer Right click the file and choose Restore previous versions Choose a suitable date and time you wish to restore the file from, and click Open
In the Properties pane, click the Document Properties text in the upper left corner and click Advanced Properties. In the dialog that pops up, click the Statistics tab to see the Created date. Anywhere in the document itself, press Ctrl+F9 to insert field brackets, type the word createdate between them, and press F9.
View tracked changes To track only your own changes - On the Review tab, select Track Changes Just Mine. To track everyones changes - On the Review tab, select Track Changes For Everyone.
Search in Windows rather than in Word. Type something in your search and then when you get the results, in the Search Contextual tab, click on Search Options. That will allow you to search by Date Modified.
Right-click the current time and select the option to Adjust Date/Time. Choose the option to Change Date and Time and input the new information in the time and date fields. Press OK to save your changes and then open the file you want to change.
Unfortunately, this isnt possible. You can view certain and change certain file attributes in File Explorer, but you cant change the last viewed, edited, or modified dates.
View previous versions of a file Open the file you want to view. Click File Info Version history. Select a version to open it in a separate window. If you want to restore a previous version youve opened, select Restore.
This is done by opening the Review tab, then clicking on Track Changes To view the changes by category (Main document, Header/footer, etc.), click on Review / and Reviewing Pane. To view the text with markups, within the Review tab, click on Final: Show Markup (which will show the final version with markups
