The MySQL BinLogs serve two important purposes: Replication: When working on a master server, the binary logs contain a record of the changes that have occurred. These records are sent to the slave servers to help them execute those events & make the same data changes that were made on the master server.
In the navigation pane, choose Automated backups. The automated backups are displayed on the Current Region tab. Choose the DB instance that you want to restore. For Actions, choose Restore to point in time.
The binary log contains “events” that describe database changes such as table creation operations or changes to table data. It also contains events for statements that potentially could have made changes (for example, a DELETE which matched no rows), unless row-based logging is used.
You can use mysqlbinlog to read binary log files directly and apply them to the local MySQL server. You can also read binary logs from a remote server by using the --read-from-remote-server option. To read remote binary logs, the connection parameter options can be given to indicate how to connect to the server.
Point-in-time recovery refers to recovery of data changes up to a given point in time. Typically, this type of recovery is performed after restoring a full backup that brings the server to its state as of the time the backup was made.
There are 5 steps to recover the database: Restore backup files from tape. Mount the instance. Restore the datafiles. Recover the database. Reset the logs.
With “binlog_format = STATEMENT” format we do get SQL using mysqlbinlog....What is binlog2sql? It is an open source tool to parse the binary logs. It has the feature to extract the raw SQL statements from binary logs. It has the feature to generate the ROLLBACK SQL from binary logs for point-in-time recovery.
The MySQL binary logs and index files are saved in the C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.0 directory. We can change the default location of the binary logs.
The information in the binary log is stored in different logging formats ing to the database changes being recorded. Replicas are configured to read the binary log from the source and to execute the events in the binary log on the replica's local database.
