[Music] the question is at what age I think you mentioned there was as early as 21 we should be getting past but how often are we getting that right so going back to age 21 a lot of the recommendations have changed over the years so Im giving the American College of ob-gyn recommendations theres different organizations that have different recommendations but we used to say a certain number of years after he became sexually active but now pretty much thats the standard age 21 if you started having sex really young we used to say 3 years afterwards but it doesnt matter our least are denying sex the risk of cervical cancer is so low but before the age of 21 that thats when people should get there first pap smear if you do it before then youre just increasing the number of extra testing that they need to do and its traumatizing for those young girls so thats why we say 21 Im just gonna put chastity belts on my children and were gonna call it a day now results of an abnormal pap

Abnormal Pap tests are very common. In fact, of the 3 million women with abnormal Pap tests each year, less than 1% (13,240 cases) will be diagnosed with cervical cancer.
The researchers defined being up to date on screening based on the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommendations that were in effect in 2005 and 2019. In 2005, that meant screening women aged 21 to 65 with a Pap test every 3 years. Over time, the USPSTF recommendations evolved.
They usually go away on their own and do not require treatment. CIN 2 changes are moderate and are typically treated by removing the abnormal cells. However, CIN 2 can sometimes go away on its own. Some people, after consulting with their health care provider, may decide to have a colposcopy with biopsy every 6 months.
The society estimated that the change to primary HPV testing starting at age 25 years would prevent 13% more cervical cancers and 7% more cervical cancer deaths than the previously recommended strategy.
Doctor's notes Most women are exposed to HPV in the course of normal sexual activity if they've had more than one sexual partner. The reason we don't do Pap tests before age 21 is because the likelihood of someone that young getting cervical cancer is very low.
Most women can follow these current recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force: If you are 21 to 29 years old, you should get a Pap test every 3 years. If you are 30 to 65 years old, you should get: A Pap test every 3 years, or.
The only sure way to find out if you have cervical cancer is to get a screening test (a Pap test and/or an HPV test). If you are a woman who has not had her cervix removed by surgery (a hysterectomy), keep getting tested until you are at least 65 years old.
Women over 65 may hear conflicting medical advice about getting a Pap smear – the screening test for cervical cancer. Current medical guidelines say the test is not necessary after age 65 if your results have been normal for several years.
You should start getting Pap tests at age 21. If your Pap test result is normal, your doctor may tell you that you can wait three years until your next Pap test.
These lesions, in women with intact immune systems, often resolve without intervention within 18 to 24 months. Low-grade lesions may also be called mild dysplasia, or CIN1. If it is your first abnormal Pap smear, your doctor will likely recommend a colposcopy.
