Duo-protected accounts are typically managed by your work, school, or other organization and are used to access things like your email. Instant Restore for Android is only for Duo-protected accounts. Duo Mobile can also be used to protect your personal accounts like Instagram and Twitter. Those are referred to as third-party accounts. To restore third-party accounts, please see our resources for recovering third-party accounts. To use Instant Restore for Android, you must have access to your old device. In addition, your Duo administrator must have enabled this feature for it to work. You must also have enabled the Backup accounts with Google Drive toggle on the Duo Restore Settings screen of the app Settings menu of your old device. Contact us
On your Android device, go to your Google Account. At the top, tap Security. Under Signing in to Google, tap 2-Step Verification. You may need to sign in. Under Available second steps, find Authenticator app and tap Change Phone. Follow the on-screen steps.
On your mobile device, open the Authenticator app, and select Begin recovery. Sign in to your recovery account using the personal Microsoft account you used during the backup process. Your account credentials are recovered to the new device.
Open the Authenticator app on your new phone and tap Begin Scan barcode. Scan the QR code displayed on Googles website with the Authenticator app, then enter the six-digit code to verify everything is working properly. Once thats done, the codes on your old device will no longer be valid.
If you dont remember, click on Try another way You will be able to retrieve your account with your phone by verifying your identity with some information. You can choose to recover your account by sending a reset code to the phone number you registered for your account.
Sign in to your Google Account with your password and your other second step. Follow the steps to remove the lost key from your account. Get a new security key. You may want to get an extra key you can keep in a safe place. Add the new key to your account.
To protect your account, we limit the number of times you can attempt password recovery via email, SMS, or Account Recovery form. Google temporarily disables a particular account recovery option after too many incorrect attempts. The recovery option will be re-enabled on the date indicated below that recovery option.
If you lose your phone or it gets stolen and you use Google Authenticator, then you can no longer use the Google Authenticator 2FA codes to log in to services that require 2FA. Youre effectively locked out of accounts that require 2FA!
To request a login link: On the login screen, tap Get help logging in. Enter the username, email address, or phone number associated with your account, then tap Next. Complete the captcha to confirm that you are a real human (web-only recovery). Select either your email address or phone number, then tap Next.
