She writes, I was told the BMI chart is somewhat inaccurate as it doesnt take into account muscle mass which is heavier than fat and many other factors. And this is a very astute observation because the BMI, Body Mass Index, is Look, its still used but its not the end all be all. For calculating the Body Mass Index (BMI) : (i) Convert the height recorded in centimeters into meters. (ii) Take the weight of each individual in kilograms (kg). (iii) Take the height by drawing up a scale on the wall and measure accurately with the head straight.
BMI Chart Find your height on the side (in metres on the left and in feet on the right) and draw a horizontal line across the chart. Find your weight (in kilograms across the bottom of in pounds across the top) and draw a vertical line across the chart. The shaded area where the 2 lines meet is your BMI.
Formula: weight (lb) / [height (in)]2 x 703 When using English measurements, ounces (oz) and fractions must be changed to decimal values. Then, calculate BMI by dividing weight in pounds (lb) by height in inches (in) squared and multiplying by a conversion factor of 703.
With the metric system, the formula for BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. Since height is commonly measured in centimeters, an alternate calculation formula, dividing the weight in kilograms by the height in centimeters squared, and then multiplying the result by 10,000, can be used.
First, you will need your height, in inches, and your body weight. Once you have these two factors, you will plug the numbers into a simple formula. The formula for BMI is: weight divided by height squared, times 703. You can also electronically calculate your BMI using the CDCs Adult BMI Calculator.
BMI is used to work out if you are a healthy weight. It is calculated by taking a persons weight in kg and dividing it by their height squared. The higher the figure, the more overweight you are and the greater your health risks.
