Published by Biblica, the complete NIV was released in 1978 with a minor revision in 1984 and a major revision in 2011. The NIV relies on recently-published critical editions of the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. Copyright 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica, Inc. Used by permission.
If you want to look for yourself, here are those 16 missing verses. Mathew 23:14, Matthew 17:21, Matthew 18:11. Mark 7:16, Mark 9:44, Mark 9:46, Mark 11:26, Mark 15:28. Luke 17:36. John 5:4. Acts 8:37, Acts 15:34, Acts 24:7, Acts 28:29. Romans 16:24.
Many people think the King James Bible (KJV) is the original but it is not. It was written in 1611. The KJV contains verses that scholars today are convinced were inserted sometime since the original was written. There are no missing verses in the NIV.
The Old Testament Genesis 9:3 The NIV reads just as I gave you the green plants, but the words I gave you are not in the Hebrew. Genesis 30:27 The NIV adds the words please stay, which are not found in the Hebrew. Genesis 46:23 The NIV says son of Dan even though the Hebrew reads sons in the plural.
Matthew 17:21 Reason: The verse closely resembles Mark 9:29, but it is lacking in Matthew in א (original handwriting), B, , some Italic, Syriac, Coptic and Ethiopic manuscripts.
Jeremiah 32:26-30 The Message (MSG) I am GOD, the God of everything living. Is there anything I cant do? So listen to GODs Message: No doubt about it, Im handing this city over to the Babylonians and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
The 2011 New International Version (NIV) replaces references of just men, to both men and women. In the 1984 NIV Mark 4:25 says, Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. The 2011 version replaces the he and him with they and them.
Zondervan has released an updated 2011 NIV and has required us to replace the 1984 version with this newer translation. If you previously purchased a copy of the 1984 NIV, you can continue using it.
