are you concerned about these actions by Russia and China to push to establish different reserves and conduct transactions in non-us dollars so the uh the US dollar is the the widely accepted and really the only serious candidate for for the worlds principal Reserve currency and thats uh thats because of our Democratic institutions our liquid markets the rule of law and all those kinds of things and also the fact that the the dollar has held its value over time so other countries who are competing on other other Playing Fields may want to they want to establish different currencies but really the dollar is the one thats going to be used more broadly in international Commerce because we have those aspects and other countries dont

Before 1944, the world reference currency was the United Kingdoms, sterling. The transition between sterling and United States dollar and its impact for central banks was described recently.
The political bases for the Bretton Woods system are in the confluence of several key conditions: the shared experiences of the Great Depression, the concentration of power in a small number of states, and the presence of a dominant power willing and able to assume a leadership role in global monetary affairs.
However, the US dollar remains the preferred reserve currency because of its stability along with assets such as United States Treasury security that have both scale and liquidity.
The U.S. dollar is the worlds dominant reserve currency, among other such currencies including the euro, the yen, the pound, the renminbi (RMB), the Canadian dollar, the Swiss franc, and the Australian dollar. A reserve currency is a currency held by central banks in docHub quantities.
Although the British Sterling was the largest currency, both the French franc and the German mark shared large portions of the market until the First World War, after which the mark was replaced by the dollar.
Underlying all of it is the presumption that without its exorbitant privilege of reserve currency status, the dollar will sink, US interest rates will soar and market mayhem will ensue.
How did the U.S. dollar become the worlds leading reserve currency? The dollars status as the global reserve currency was cemented in the aftermath of World War II by the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference, in which forty-four countries agreed to the creation of the IMF and the World Bank.
Since the end of World War II, the US dollar has served as the primary reserve currency globally, leaving little room for other currencies to grow as an alternative monetary system. Currently, central banks hold about 60 percent of their foreign exchange reserves in American dollars.
The researchers argue that replacing the dollar isnt going to be easy or quick. However, they found evidence that yuan reserves were steadily increasing in countries that had tighter trade relations with China. This growing influence could make the yuan an alternative to the U.S. dollar in a multipolar world.
Unless the global economy undergoes a complete overhaul, the dollar will remain on top. America may have never run on Dunkin, as the donut-makers slogan claimed, but the global economy runs on the dollar.
