The DOT serial number is located on the inside sidewall near the rim. The letters DOT are followed by eight to thirteen letters and/or numbers that identify where the tire was manufactured, tire size, and the manufacturers code, along with the week and year the tire was manufactured.
All tires sold in the U.S. contain a TIRE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER or TIN. This string of characters is on the tire sidewall and begins with the letters DOT. Tires are required by federal law to have a full TIN on one side and a partial TIN on the other.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) symbols and the Tire Identification Number (TIN) are two necessary pieces of information about your tire.
How do you read a tyre date code? The first two numbers of the 4-digit DOT date code (which, again, appears at the very end of the string of letters and numbers that start with DOT) indicate the week that the tyre was manufactured. The last two numbers of the date code tell you the year of manufacture.
If your tire doesnt have a DOT number branded on its side, the tire doesnt meet all U.S. requirements. Not all tires are intended to be imported and sold in the United States, so the tire may have been developed and produced without being tested and confirmed to meet the U.S. Federal Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
ing to DOT regulations, Tire Identification Numbers (TIN) must begin with the letters DOT, followed by eight to 13 characters. The DOT information often identifies the manufacturing location by a code, tire size code and type code, followed by the week and year the tire was manufactured.
The DOT number is stamped on both sides of the tire sidewall and can be found by looking for the DOT designation on the sidewall.
