so the reason you dont want to really hurt the tick is actually that the tick is feeding on you and salivating and so when you burn the tick it salivates even more pretty much youre scaring it and it just goes yeah into you and thats what you want to avoid because in the saliva you have potential pathogens so you want to avoid that the safe way to remove ticks is to take your your tweezers and you want to go as close to the skin as possible and you want to hold on to your tick and youre what youre going to be doing is youre going to hold on and youre gonna pull straight up slowly steadily theres you dont want to twist you dont want to jerk you just want very steadily to hold on to your tick like this and pull up like that now you have your tick the mouth parts are there people worry about not having having the head stay into you they dont really have a hand to speak of all they put in there is little mouth parts thirds theyre sinking their teeth into you and so the teeth wh

Grasp the tick as close to your dogs skin as possible (without pinching your pet). Pull it out slowly in a straight, steady motion. Dont jerk; anything left behind could lead to an infection.
To remove a tick that is embedded in the skin, grasp the tick as close to the skins surface as possible, using tweezers if available. Pull upward with a steady, continuous motion. To ensure the whole tick is removed, try not to twist it or jerk it.
Before You Go Outdoors Know where to expect ticks. Treat clothing and gear with products containing 0.5% permethrin. Use Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE), para-menthane-diol (PMD), or 2-undecanone.
After you remove the tick: Wash the bite area gently and apply Bacitracin or Polysporin antibiotic ointment (over-the-counter) to the bite area daily for a few days while it heals.
Ticks should be removed from skin as soon as possible. Do not wait for the tick to detach itself from the skin by painting it with petroleum jelly or using heat. Use fine-tipped forceps or tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and gently pull straight out without twisting motions.
Touching it with a hot match is a common one. Others include covering it with petroleum jelly or nail polish (in theory to suffocate it), or freezing it off.
Leaving a ticks head embedded in your (or your furry friends) skin doesnt increase your risk of tick-borne disease. However, a ticks head left embedded in your skin can increase your risk of infection. The ticks head and mouth parts are covered in germs that you dont want to leave inside your skin.
Once the tick is removed, its a good idea to place it in a Ziploc bag in case your doctor would like to test it to help identify diseases that it may have been carrying. Then, wash the bite with soap and warm water and apply an antibiotic ointment like Neosporin to the area.
No matter which tool youre using to remove the tick, always use a cotton ball soaked in either rubbing alcohol or liquid dish soap and place it on the tick.
