For starters, when you buy a used vehicle in Ontario you need to register it within six days of the sale and a copy of a completed bill of sale is required for registration. Second, a completed bill of sale entitles the new owner to legally claim rights to the vehicle. In other words, it serves as proof of ownership.
You can replace lost, damaged or stolen vehicle ownership papers at any Service Ontario branch office. Be sure to bring identification, your drivers license, your VIN and proof of insurance with you. A fee of $32 will be charged for their production.
If you lose your vehicle registration certificate, you can order a duplicate copy online. Licence plate expiry stickers are no longer required as of January 1, 2021. Price: $28.00 per registration certificate inclusive of service charge.
You cannot change car ownership online. You must visit a ServiceOntario location to show proof of ownership, insurance, and other documents.
Is a photocopy of your cars ownership sufficient to show police? The HTA allows motorists to carry a true copy copy of their vehicle permit. That means photocopying both front and back, including the updated validation sticker. Proof of insurance must be the actual certificate.
The vehicle owner must file a request with the Ontario, CA DMV for a duplicate title. This can typically be done in person, online, or by mail.
How do you transfer car ownership to buyers? Make sure the VIN matches the VIN number on the permit. Complete the bill of sale portion of the Used Vehicle Inspection Package. Complete the Application for Transfer. Bring the UVIP and vehicle permit to Service Ontario within six days of the sale. Pay the retail sales tax.
An Affidavit for Missing Bill of Sale is an Ontario legal document used to provide evidence of ownership when the original bill of sale for a vehicle or other valuable item is lost or unavailable.
