The symbols reflect the named insureds selection as to what types of vehicles are insured for that coverage (e.g., owned autos, hired autos, nonowned autos).
Symbol 1- Any Auto is the most comprehensive coverage option available on a Commercial Car insurance policy. It includes coverage for scheduled, hired, and non-owned autos, as well as other types of vehicles that may be involved in use for your business.
Symbol 5 This provides No-Fault coverage (in New York this includes Personal Injury Protection, or PIP) to any vehicle required by law to carry it.
5 = Owned Autos Subject To No-Fault Any auto owned by an insured that is garaged or licensed in a state where no-fault benefit laws exist. This symbol also applies to any auto acquired after the policy begins.
7 = Specifically Described Autos Only those autos that are specifically listed on the policy are covered. The symbol also applies to any trailer while it is towed by a listed vehicle.
Symbol 6 Owned Autos Uninsured Motorist Coverage Similar to the PIP laws in no-fault states, uninsured motorist coverage is not mandatory on all owned vehicles in every state. Symbol 6 would be applied to any autos that require this coverage in a particular state.
Definition: Covered Auto Symbols. The Business Auto Policy uses numeric symbols to indicate the types of vehicles for which coverage is in effect. Only those symbols listed for a coverage can be used. Symbols 1 through 6 provide vehicle automatic coverage.
Symbol 5 is used to provide no-fault coverage for autos you own when such coverage is required by law. No-fault auto laws exist in twelve states and Puerto Rico. 4 Symbol 6 is used to trigger uninsured motorist coverage for autos you own.
