Remove Specific Character from String Use gsub() function to remove a character from a string or text in R. This is an R base function that takes 3 arguments, first, the character to look for, second, the value to replace with, in our case we use blank string, and the third input string were to replace.
To replace a character, especially an old character of a string in R, we use the chartr() function. The chartr() function in R replaces an instance of an old character with a new character in the specified string set.
To insert special characters directly into the Find and Replace dialog box: Select the Home tab in the ribbon. Select Replace in the Editing group. Ensure that the special character appears in the Find what text box in the Find and Replace dialog box. Enter the replacement character in the Replace with text box.
We can use the gsub() function or the sub() function in R to replace characters in a string.
To replace a character, especially an old character of a string in R, we use the chartr() function. The chartr() function in R replaces an instance of an old character with a new character in the specified string set.
Find and replace text within a file using sed command Use Stream EDitor (sed) as follows: sed -i s/old-text/new-text/g input.txt. The s is the substitute command of sed for find and replace. It tells sed to find all occurrences of old-text and replace with new-text in a file named input.txt.
Use strreplaceall() method of stringr package to replace multiple string values with another list of strings on a single column in R and update part of a string with another string.
For replacing special characters from a string, use the replace() method. It searches the string for the special characters based on the provided pattern and replaces them with the specified replacer. You can update or create the pattern based on the requirements.
