If you apply by mail and everything is in order, you will receive a letter by mail with your SIN within 25 business days from the date your application was received.
To replace a lost SIN card or confirmation letter youll need to: Visit your local Service Canada Centre. Bring with you appropriate identity documents.
If you have lost your SIN, or if it was stolen, Service Canada will not issue a new one. Service Canada may issue a new SIN only if there is proof that the SIN was used fraudulently. If you think this may apply to you, refer to Protecting your SIN for more information.
Visit your local Service Canada centre in person with appropriate documents. Submit your Confirmation of SIN letter request through Service Canadas online SIN request service. By mail. Complete the appropriate form(s) NAS2120 with supporting document attached and mailed to SIN head office in Bathurst, NB.
To update your SIN record, you must submit an application and the required documents. Once Service Canada makes the changes, you will receive a Confirmation of SIN letter. Your SIN stays the same, but receiving this letter indicates that the change has been made.
If everything is in order, you will receive a letter with your SIN by mail within 10 business days from the date the application is received. If more than 15 business days have passed and you would like to determine the status of your application, contact the SIN program.
What should I do if I have lost my SIN? The Service Canada website has answers to general questions about the SIN such as how to apply for a SIN, or replace a lost or stolen card. Service Canada can be contacted online or by telephone at: 1 800 O-Canada (1-800-622-6232).
You can also apply by mail or request an in-person appointment if you face barriers applying online. If you are outside of Canada and you have a study or work permit, you can apply online for a new or extended SIN or confirmation of a SIN, even if you do not have a Canadian mailing address.

If you still need a SIN after the expiry date, you will have to complete a SIN application and provide valid proof of identification, such as a new Work Permit. If you qualify, you will be issued a new SIN card with the same number and a new expiry date. There is no fee for this service.
