Whats the difference between on-Demand and spot instance?

The key difference between spot instances and on-demand instances is the pricing model and their availability. On-demand instances have a fixed price and are always available, while spot instances operate on a bidding system and are not guaranteed to be available. How to change EC2 to spot?

Its not currently possible to convert an Amazon EC2 on-demand instance to a spot instance. You can save your instance as an AMI and then use the AMI as the source for an instance launched as spot instance.

What is the difference between spot fleet and instance?

While Spot Instance requests are for a single instance, Spot Fleet is designed to manage a group of Spot Instances. It allows you to define a target capacity, and AWS will maintain it by replacing any terminated Spot Instances.

Can you stop a spot instance?

You can only stop a Spot Instance if the Spot Instance was launched from a persistent Spot Instance request. You cant stop a Spot Instance if the associated Spot Instance request is cancelled. When the Spot Instance request is cancelled, you can only terminate the Spot Instance.

What is the difference between spot fleet and spot instance?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Spot Fleets are collections of AWS spot instances, virtual servers from Amazons pool of spare capacity, offered at discounts of up to 90%. Spot instances need to be carefully managed, because they are terminated by Amazon at short notice when the market price goes about your bidding price.

When should you use spot instances?

You can use Spot Instances for various fault-tolerant and flexible applications. Examples include stateless web servers, API endpoints, big data and analytics applications, containerized workloads, CI/CD high performance and high throughput computing (HPC/HTC), rendering workloads, and other flexible workloads.

How to change AMI of existing instance?

You cant update the AMI of an instance without replacing it with a new instance. Typically you simply run the operating system updates - yum update / apt update upgrade / windows update.

What is an spot instance?

Spot Instances are available at up to a 90% discount compared to On-Demand prices. You can use Spot Instances for various stateless, fault-tolerant, or flexible applications such as big data, containerized workloads, CI/CD, web servers, high-performance computing (HPC), and other test development workloads.
