The average cost to replace an electrical panel differs greatly based on how many amps you are upgrading. For the lowest 100-amp panels, the cost of an upgrade ranges from $400 to $800 (panel only), while upgrading to 400 amps could cost anywhere from $800 to $2,500.
An electrical panel upgrade is where a combination of panel wiring, breakers, or fuses are replaced. This replacement results in increased energy management efficiency of your home. This process is often referred to as a Main Panel Upgrade (MPU).
If you hope to increase your homes value before putting it on the market, consider an electrical upgrade. Several electrical upgrades can increase your homes resale value and attract more potential buyers, including grounded outlets, an electrical panel upgrade, and home rewiring.
Individual fuses typically range from $3 to $10 per fuse. If you have a circuit breaker that needs a switch replacement, you can expect to pay around $5 to $15 per switch.
A 200-amp panel allows more circuits to be connected, and the cost difference between a 100-amp and 200-amp service is negligible. If youre planning a home remodel involving docHub electrical work, a 200-amp service is usually the best option.
Upgrading your electrical panel does increase your homes resale value by making it safer and more efficient. Potential buyers will know theres far less risk of shortages and system overloads.
It keeps your home safe Outdated or overwhelmed electrical panels are a main cause of electrical fires. Having such a panel represents a danger to your family and home. Upgrading your panel is an investment worth making because it will keep your family safe and protect you from fires caused by a faulty electric system.
Replacing a fuse box with a circuit breaker box costs $1,500 to $2,000, though this price increases if the wiring requires a complete overhaul. Replacing a pre-existing fuse box with another fuse box of a similar type costs $200 to $2,000.
It is not possible to upgrade from 100 amps to 200 amps simply by replacing your breaker panel. To upgrade to 200 amps from a smaller service, you will need a new breaker panel, circuit breakers, meter socket, service conductors, grounding electrodes and bonding conductors.
