Response 1: The signature on the certificate of insurance is that of an authorized representative of the insurer, which means your question is better directed to the insurer.
Only your broker or an authorized representative of the Named Insured (the company name you provided during the quotation process) is authorized to make changes to your policy.
A binding authority is an agreement in which an insurer gives full authority to an agent (typically an insurance broker) to act on their behalf for the purpose of underwriting. Once the agent has binding authority, they are legally allowed to sell policies on the insurers behalf.
The acts of the agent are considered the acts of the company. Brokers have no authority to bind insurers to accept contracts. The products they sell are always subject to the insurers approval. An Agent can bind a contract - a Broker cannot.
Required signatures include: the applicant. the proposed insured (if different from the applicant) the agent soliciting the insurance.
An insurance endorsement/rider is an amendment to an existing insurance contract that changes the terms of the original policy. An endorsement/rider can be issued at the time of purchase, mid-term or at renewal time. Insurance premiums may be affected and adjusted as a result.
Only an executive officer of the insurer, not an agent, can make changes to the policy. Changes in the contract can be made only with the insurers written consent.
Insuring Agreement The portion of an insurance contract that describes what is covered. The insuring agreement usually states the perils insured against, the person(s) and/or property covered, the property locations, and the period of the contract.
