When searching for text in italics, I have always used the standard keyboard shortcut of Ctrl-i in the text box.
To insert special characters directly into the Find and Replace dialog box: Select the Home tab in the ribbon. Select Replace in the Editing group. Ensure that the special character appears in the Find what text box in the Find and Replace dialog box. Enter the replacement character in the Replace with text box.
Try it! Select Replace or press Ctrl + H. In the Find what box, type the text you want to search for. Select Find Next to see where the text appears in your file. In the Replace with box, type the text you want. Select Replace to change the text or select Replace All to change all instances of this text in your file.
Click Format and then select Font. Select the format you want to use as a replacement (such as Bold in the Font Style area). Click OK. Click Find Next and then click Replace for each occurrence or click Replace All.
Select the Replace tab, and then select the Replace with box. Select Special, select a wildcard character, and then type any additional text in the Replace with box. Select Replace All, Replace, or Find Next.
