the wax seal on a toilet forms a watertight seal between the toilet bowl and the outlet pipe which is connected to your main sewage line now for obvious reasons its important that the seal does not leak but unfortunately over time these seals do perish and replacing them is a really quick and easy job lets have a look how its done now what you will need is a toilet wax seal a utility knife and possibly a screwdriver to help remove the old seal as well as an old rag and a dash of thinners now depending on access to the back of the toilet i find it easiest to lean over the seat start by removing the old wax by gently scraping it out using a screwdriver and your fingers now this stuff is really tacky you are going to get waxy fingers try and get as much of the old wax out as possible and i do find that a bit of thinners on a rag helps to clean up now carefully remove the new seal from the packaging and using the knife gently cuts a slit into one side ensure that the ribbed side faces
