The CSV filetype is a plain text file that holds lists of data and is useful for moving information between different software. Sometimes when opening a CSV file in Microsoft Excel the data appears jumbled such as in this example. This data is from an Atlas Copco MTF6000 controller and contains torque verification data. By examining the text I can see that the data is separated using semicolons, not commas. This would explain why Excel isnt properly displaying the data. To fix this issue we must open the Text Import Wizard. In older versions of Excel this is done by opening the CSV file using the File Import action, but in this newer version we must manually open the file by selecting File, then opening it from the disk or recent files list. Now that the Text Import Wizard is open we must tell Excel to use the Delimited data type which separates the text into fields using certain characters. Select Delimited and click next. Click the Data tab, and select From Text. Find your CSV file stored on your computer, and click Open. In the Text Import Wizard window, be sure Delimited is selected as your file type. In the File origin drop down, select 65001 : Unicode (UTF-8) Check the My Data has headers box. Click the Next button.
Open the CSV and save it as an Excel file. Then edit it. Then save it again, still as an Excel file. (That way you can always reopen the edited Excel, not losing any work youve done.)
You can access it from the Edit Find Replace menu or by pressing Ctrl-F on the keyboard. You will then see the following dialog: Enter the phrase or word you are looking for and the corresponding one to replace it with if any. Clicking Find will search for the first occurance of your criteria.
Approach Import module. Open CSV file and read its data. Find column to be updated. Update value in the CSV file using tocsv() function.
The join() method takes all lines of a CSV file in an iterable and joins them into one string. Then, we can use replace() method on the entire string and can perform single/multiple replacements. In the entire string, the given text is searched and replaced with the specified text.
Auto-Update the CSV File: Configure your system or script to periodically add new rows to the CSV file. This can be done based on a cycle time or any other trigger (e.g., machine runs). The new rows should follow the same structure as defined in the template CSV file.
