Quotes can serve double-duty in your classroom as decor for your walls or bulletin boards and also as a way to speak to the challenges that students may be facing. You could choose to set up a bulletin board with multiple quotes that relate to what students might be going through, or instead share a quote of the week.
In your in-text citation identify the primary source, and include in parentheses (as cited in Author, Date). The reference list will only list the secondary source. In the examples below, Smiths study is the primary source and Queenan et al. is the secondary (as cited in) source.
Triple quotes can also contain special characters like TAB, verbatim, or NEWLINES. As the name would imply, the syntax consists of three single or double quotes placed consecutively.
When researching, you may find many instances of a quotation within a quotation (that is, the author you are quoting has quoted another author) in scholarly essays. In this case, you use the single quotation marks () for the quote within the quote.
Single quotation marks should be used only for a quote within a quote. Do not use quotation marks for word emphasis. The period and the comma always go within the quotation marks. The dash, semicolon, question mark and exclamation point go within the quotation marks when they apply to the quoted matter only.
Using Brackets Sometimes information is missing or inaccurate in a quote. Words can be added or changed to a quote by using brackets. Changes can be used to correct tense or to add necessary information. Brackets can also be used to make the pronouns in a quote consistent.
Learning lessons is a little like docHubing maturity. Youre not suddenly more happy, wealthy, or powerful, but you understand the world around you better, and youre at peace with yourself.
Quotations within a Quotation Use single quotation marks to enclose quotes within another quotation. The reporter told me, When I interviewed the quarterback, he said they simply played a better game.
