No, you will not own the device at the end of your leasing term. However, you do have the option to buy your phone at the end of the term by paying the balance off. Cell phone leasing plans are payment plans where a carrier charges you each month to rent their phone.
Leasing company owns the phone That means that you can decide what to do with it, including whether to keep it or sell it to someone else. You dont have that option with leasing, unless you decide to buy the phone later.
If you decide not to keep the phone, you must turn it in at a T-Mobile store. You can then decide to start a new lease on a new phone, or talk with our team about other upgrade options, such as an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP). When you return a leased phone, it must be in good working condition.
After your lease ends, a charge will appear on your bill for the remaining purchase-option price of your device, plus taxes.
Leasing a phone is similar in concept to monthly installments, as you pay a specified amount per monththe main difference between the two is that you wont keep the phone at the end of a lease, whereas the phone is yours when paid for through monthly installments.
Pay off your phone If youre on a monthly installment plan, the phone is yours once its paid off and youre typically free to cancel your service. Double-check your contract to ensure there are no Early Termination Fees (ETFs) before cancelling. Some two-year contracts have ETFs that are prorated monthly.
Turn in the phone at a retail location in good working condition and pay the full amount of the remaining monthly lease installments. Pay the remaining monthly lease installments, plus the full Purchase Option Price (POP) as stated on your lease agreement, and keep the phone.
Due to the fact that cell phone contracts usually transfer ownership at the end of the contract and the phone usually only has a short economic life, these contracts will generally result in finance leases. The specific terms of the agreements should however be considered when classifying these agreements.
