Youll get a P45 from your employer when you stop working for them. Your P45 shows how much tax youve paid on your salary so far in the tax year (6 April to 5 April).
Although the term P46 is sometimes still used, the starter checklist officially replaced the P46 in 2013. The completed P46 form had to be submitted to HMRC, but the starter checklist does not need to be.
Employees do not have to sign a new contract for changes to take effect. However, you should always put any agreed contract changes in writing, for example in a letter or email. This helps to make sure everyone is clear about what has been agreed so there is less chance of misunderstandings or disagreements.
Ask all new employees to give you a signed Form W-4 when they start work. Make the form effective with the first wage payment. If employees claim exemption from income tax withholding, then they must indicate this on their W-4.
Technical reasons are to do with the equipment or processes the company uses. Organisational reasons are to do with the structure of the company. Employers can make changes if the employees existing contract allows for those changes. But the transfer itself cannot be the reason for change.
