Exposure compensation is a setting that lets you override what the camera thinks is right. If your photograph is too dark, you can brighten it up and if it is too bright, you can darken it down, in an instant. Nowadays, most good cameras have a dedicated exposure compensation dial for easy access.
Camera exposure compensation is commonly stated in terms of EV units; 1 EV is equal to one exposure step (or stop), corresponding to a doubling of exposure. Exposure can be adjusted by changing either the lens aperture or the exposure time; which one is changed usually depends on the cameras exposure mode.
Increasing the Exposure Compensation to +1 will cause the camera to double the ISO, creating a brighter image. Decreasing the Exposure Compensation to -1 will cause the camera to halve the ISO, creating a darker image.
Exposure compensation is a technique for adjusting the exposure indicated by a photographic exposure meter, in consideration of factors that may cause the indicated exposure to result in a less-than-optimal image.
The AUTO ISO setting on the camera automatically sets the amount of light sent to the image sensor. You can use the exposure compensation setting (EV) to brighten or darken the image depending on your lighting needs. This will change the AUTO ISO settings.
