To replace your incandescent light bulbs, there are three groups of more energy-saving alternatives: new generation halogen light bulbs; compact fluorescent light bulbs (also known as economical bulbs); LEDs.
Using a 60W LED bulb in a 40W lamp is generally safe because LED bulbs consume much less power than their incandescent counterparts. LED bulbs are designed to be energy-efficient and produce less heat, so they are less likely to overheat or damage the lamp.
Assuming we are talking conventional incandescent lamps, I would say that you should not put the 60W lamps in the fixture. The power ratings are PER LAMP not per fixture. The fixture has no way ove averaging the power. So placing 60W lamps in a 40W fixture is 50% overlimit.
Can I use a 300-watt LED bulb if my lamp says the max is 100 watts? A 300 watt equivalent LED bulb will actually use about 40 watts. A 100 watt lamp is rated for a 100 watt incandescent, which is 100 watts. So, assuming it fits in the same socket, the basic answer is yes.
LightFinder is a new way to find and buy exactly the light bulb you need and have it delivered to your home. Scan your old bulb with the app and let our AI technology match it up with the right replacement.
As long as the mounting base (socket) is the same size and type, you can use an LED bulb in an existing fixture. If the mounting base isnt the same size and type, the LED bulb will not fit the socket. You should never use a bulb with a higher wattage than what is recommended for the fixture.
Instructions Step 1: Turn Off the Power. Step 2: Remove the Old Light Fixture. Step 3: Tighten the Screws. Step 4: Wire the New Light Fixture. Step 5: Secure the Base or Canopy of the Ceiling Light Fixture. Step 6: Bulbs in the Light Fixture. Step 7: the Trim and Cover on the Light Fixture.
How do I determine the wattage equivalence of my lightbulb? Wattage Conversion Chart Incandescent or Halogen WattageLumensLED or CFL Wattage 40 watts 440-460 9-13 watts 60 watts 800-850 13-15 watts 75 watts 1000-1110 18-25 watts4 more rows
