hi this is joachim for statisticsglobe.com and in this video ill explain how to replace specific characters in a character string using the r programming language in the video im going to show you two examples and both of these examples are based on the example character string that we can create with line two of the code so after running this line of code you will see that at the top right of rstudio a new data object appears which is called x and we can also have a look at this data object by running line 3 of the code and then you can see at the bottom in the rstudio console that our character string is returned and as you can see our character string consists of a random sequence of different letters whereby some of the letters are y so lets assume that we want to replace all of these ys by a new character string then we can apply the cheese up function as you can see in line five of the code so within the g sub function we need to specify the character that we want to replace

The procedure to change the text in files under Linux/Unix using sed: Use Stream EDitor (sed) as follows: sed -i s/old-text/new-text/g input.txt. The s is the substitute command of sed for find and replace. It tells sed to find all occurrences of old-text and replace with new-text in a file named input.txt.
String are immutable in Java. You cant change them. You need to create a new string with the character replaced.
