The screenplay format for scene headings, or slug lines, is that they are in all capital letters. The name of the location comes first, followed by a hyphen (-), and the words day or night. Scene headings also use INT. and EXT. to describe whether the scene takes place in the interior or exterior of the location.
With your file open, go to Format Elements (Mac) or Format Elements Settings (Windows). Click Apply a Template and you will get a list of various formats. Select the format you want and OK your way back to the script.
The basics of script formatting are as follows: 12-point Courier font size. 1.5 inch margin on the left of the page. 1 inch margin on the right of the page. 1 inch on the of the top and bottom of the page. Each page should have approximately 55 lines. The dialogue block starts 2.5 inches from the left side of the page.
Make sure there are no commas, colons, slashes, ampersands or anything else thats not a plain letter or number. You can if necessary rename the PDF after its been saved out of Final Draft. Irregular characters in any of the folder / subfolder names into which youre trying to save the PDF might also cause problems.
